Manual programming, canned cycles, work and tool offsets, and the controller families you will meet - Fanuc, Siemens, Haas. Read a programme before you generate one.

Learn CAM software Required

Mastercam, Fusion, NX or SolidCAM, plus the CAD skill to interpret a model and its GD&T. Toolpath strategy and cycle time are what you are judged on.

Programme production parts Required

Process planning, fixture design input, proving out on the machine, and cutting cycle time without losing tool life. You own the balance between speed and scrap.

Multi-axis, or methods and process engineering Optional

Five-axis and turn-mill programming, or a move into manufacturing methods engineering, which is the office-side career.
