Build a portfolio that shows thinking Required
Not just finished pieces - show iterations, thumbnails and design variations. Art directors hire people who can generate options, not people who can render one nice image.
Work in games, film or animation Required
Environment, character, prop or vehicle concept. Indian studios do concept work for international projects, and remote freelance is common in this discipline.
Senior concept artist, or art director Optional
Art direction means setting the visual language and directing others. It is a different skill from drawing well.
