Working a trade abroad on a fixed-term contract, usually in construction, oil and gas, or facilities maintenance. Selection is typically by a trade test, and the employer arranges visa and accommodation.

Use only registered recruiting agents, insist on the contract in writing before you fly, register with the government emigration system, and keep the embassy helpline. Living conditions in labour accommodation are often poor, outdoor summer work is genuinely dangerous, and the separation from family over years is the cost people underestimate most.

Build real experience in India first Required
Two or three years. Overseas employers trade-test on arrival, and being sent home after failing one is expensive and common among under-experienced candidates.
Use only a licensed recruiting agent Required
Recruiting agents must hold a licence from the Ministry of External Affairs, and the licence number is verifiable on the eMigrate portal. Fraud against Gulf-bound Indian workers is widespread, and checking the licence is the single most protective thing you can do.
Register on eMigrate and get emigration clearance Required
Workers holding an ECR passport need emigration clearance for the notified countries, obtained through eMigrate. Never surrender your original passport to an agent, and never accept a contract you have not read in a language you understand.
Verify the offer before you travel Required
Employer name, job title, wage, hours and accommodation stated in writing. Check the terms against what the agent told you verbally - the gap between the two is where most disputes begin.
Work the contract, and plan the return Required
Contracts run two to three years. Save deliberately, keep your certificates and experience letters, and know that the Indian mission and the Indian Community Welfare Fund exist if the employment goes wrong.

This is where borrowed money is lost, and the losses are life-changing.</p>
What should I check in the contract?
<p>The stated wage and whether it is basic or total, working hours and overtime terms, who pays for accommodation, food and transport, the contract duration, ticket arrangements, and what happens if you want to leave early. A verbal promise from an agent is not a contract and will not be honoured.</p>
