ITI Hair and Skin Care, or a hairdressing course Required
One year for the ITI trade; brand academies run shorter intensive courses. Cutting is a physical skill built by repetition, so choose training with real heads, not mannequins only.
Assist in a salon Required
Washing, sectioning, prepping colour and watching. Every stylist serves this apprenticeship and it is where you learn what a good cut looks like from the inside.
Start cutting and colouring Required
Cutting technique, colour theory, chemical services and consultation. Consultation is the part most stylists neglect and it is what prevents unhappy clients.
Train with a brand academy Required
L'Oreal, Schwarzkopf, Wella and the rest run advanced education. It is where technique is upgraded and where reputation in the trade is built.
Senior stylist, then your own chair or salon Optional
Senior stylists command their own pricing and their own following. The final step is a chair rental, a salon, or brand education work.

|---|---|---|
| Any experience | ₹10,000 – ₹20,000 / monthly | Varies by employer |
These are ranges, not offers. Pay varies by city, employer size, sector and your own skill more than by job title. Treat the band as the shape of the market, not as a number you can hold anyone to.
