Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology Required
The science base for any AYUSH degree.
Clear NEET UG and complete an AYUSH degree Required
BAMS, BSMS, BUMS or BHMS. All are five and a half years including the internship, and all are entered through NEET UG.
Register with the relevant state board Required
Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani register with a State Board of Indian Medicine; homoeopathy registers separately under the National Commission for Homoeopathy. Government recruitment will not process you without the registration number.
Apply through state recruitment Required
Medical Officer (AYUSH) posts are filled by the State Public Service Commission, the state AYUSH directorate, or the National Health Mission on contract. NHM contract posts open more often and are the usual way in.
Serve at a dispensary, PHC or AYUSH wing Required
Most posts are rural and many are single-handed. It is real clinical independence early, which is the trade-off for the posting.
Regularisation and promotion Optional
Contract posts convert to regular service in some states and not others. Promotion to senior medical officer and district AYUSH officer runs on seniority, so the date you enter service matters more than anything you do afterwards.

What it pays
Indicative bands.
| Stage | Pay band | What changes |
|---|---|---|

These are ranges, not offers. Pay varies by city, employer size, sector and your own skill more than by job title. Treat the band as the shape of the market, not as a number you can hold anyone to.
