Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology Required
PCB is the entry requirement for B.Sc Nursing almost everywhere. English is usually counted in the aggregate as well.
B.Sc Nursing Required
Four years including the internship year. Admission is through your state's nursing counselling, or the institute's own test at places like AIIMS and CMC. A GNM diploma followed by Post Basic B.Sc Nursing is the other way in if you are already working.
Register with your State Nursing Council Required
You are entered on the register as RN RM - Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. This is not paperwork you can defer: without it you cannot be employed as a nurse at all. Start it as soon as results are out, because councils take several weeks.
Work as a staff nurse Required
Bedside years are what M.Sc admission committees and, later, your students actually respect. Most M.Sc Nursing programmes ask for at least one year; two or three makes you a better teacher.
M.Sc Nursing in your specialty Required
Indian Nursing Council norms require M.Sc Nursing to teach in a nursing college, so this is the actual gate into the job, not an optional extra. You pick a specialty here - medical-surgical, paediatric, psychiatric, community health or obstetrics.
Teach, then take a Ph.D. for the senior grades Optional
You start as a tutor or lecturer. Associate professor and professor grades expect a Ph.D. in Nursing along with years in post.
