The route in, step by step
6 steps from where you are now.
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology Required
The science base for nursing entry.
B.Sc Nursing, or GNM Required
Either qualifies you to work in theatre. Operation theatre technology is a separate diploma and a separate job - a technician assists with equipment, an OT nurse scrubs and counts.
Register with your State Nursing Council Required
RN RM registration before employment.
Get posted to theatre Required
This is the real step and it is not automatic. Ask for OT rotation early, take the night emergency lists nobody wants, and make yourself the person the surgeons ask for.
Scrub, circulate and learn the specialty trays Required
Competence here is specific: instrument counts, sterile field discipline, and knowing what a particular surgeon will ask for before they ask. Cardiac, neuro and orthopaedic theatres each take their own learning.
Post Basic Diploma in Operation Room Nursing Optional
A one-year INC-recognised diploma. Not required to work in theatre, but it is what gets you OT in-charge rather than senior scrub nurse.

What it pays
Indicative bands.
| Stage | Pay band | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Any experience | ₹15,000 – ₹30,000 / monthly | Varies by employer |
These are ranges, not offers. Pay varies by city, employer size, sector and your own skill more than by job title. Treat the band as the shape of the market, not as a number you can hold anyone to.
