The route in, step by step
7 steps from where you are now.
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology Required
Start here if you already intend to work abroad, because the degree route travels better than the diploma.
B.Sc Nursing Required
Four years. GNM holders do go abroad, but more countries recognise the degree without extra bridging, and the paperwork is far shorter.
Register with your State Nursing Council Required
RN RM registration. Every overseas regulator verifies your Indian registration directly with the council, so any gap or error here stops the whole application.
Work in India first Required
Most destinations want at least two years of post-registration hospital experience, and want it documented on employer letterhead. Keep your own copies of everything from day one.
Pass the language test Required
IELTS or OET, at the band the destination regulator sets. This is the step Indian nurses most often underestimate, and the score expires, so do not sit it years early.
Pass the destination licensing exam Required
NCLEX-RN for the United States, the CBT and OSCE for the United Kingdom, or the health authority exam for the Gulf - DHA, HAAD, MOH or the Prometric route. Each has its own syllabus; prepare for one, not all of them.
Credential verification, visa and registration abroad Required
Verification of your qualifications, then the work visa, then registration with the foreign regulator. Timelines here are driven by immigration policy and change without notice, so treat any figure you are quoted by an agent with suspicion.

What it pays
Indicative bands.
| Stage | Pay band | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Any experience | ₹15,000 – ₹30,000 / monthly | Varies by employer |
These are ranges, not offers. Pay varies by city, employer size, sector and your own skill more than by job title. Treat the band as the shape of the market, not as a number you can hold anyone to.
