The route in, step by step
6 steps from where you are now.
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Required
Or Class 10 followed by a diploma, which is the shorter route to site.
Diploma or B.Tech in Civil Engineering Required
Three or four years. Both work on site; the degree progresses faster into planning and project management.
Start on site Required
Setting out, supervising execution, checking reinforcement and concrete, and daily progress reporting. The first two years are learning how buildings actually get built rather than how they are drawn.
Learn quantities, quality and safety Required
Measurement and billing, quality checks and pour cards, and site safety. A site engineer who can bill accurately is valued far above one who only supervises.
Take responsibility for a section or a site Required
Coordinating subcontractors, material planning and programme. You are accountable for progress and for what gets covered up.
Project engineer, then project manager Optional
Progression by projects completed. A PMP or a construction management qualification helps at the manager level.
