Class 10 Required
Entry for the ITI trades that feed this work.
ITI in Electrician or Solar Technician Required
Electrician is the broader trade and travels further. The dedicated Solar Technician trade is more direct if you are certain about the field.
Take the Suryamitra or an SCGJ solar course Required
The MNRE Suryamitra programme, run through the National Institute of Solar Energy and its partner centres, is the recognised short training for installation. Skill Council for Green Jobs certification is the other accepted credential.
Get a Wireman's Permit Required
Rooftop systems are electrical installations connected to the grid. Net metering approval from the discom generally requires the work to have been done under a licensed wireman or supervisor, so this is not optional if you want the sanctioned jobs.
Install, commission and handle net metering Required
Mounting structures, string wiring, inverter commissioning, earthing and lightning protection, then the discom paperwork. The paperwork defeats more installers than the wiring does.
Move to supervisor, or to larger systems Optional
Commercial rooftop and ground-mount work needs a supervisor's certificate and a different skill set again. That is where the money moves.
