Class 10, then ITI Tool and Die Maker or Machinist Required
Two years. Either trade feeds tool room technician work.
Apprenticeship Required
One year, ending in the National Apprenticeship Certificate.
Maintain and repair tooling Required
Die maintenance, mould cleaning and polishing, fixture repair and the tool crib. Preventive maintenance on tooling is undervalued and is what stops emergency stoppages.
Learn try-out and problem solving Required
Why a part is out of tolerance, why a mould is flashing, why a press tool is burring. Diagnosis is the skill; the repair is usually straightforward once you know.
Take a certificate in tool design or CAD Optional
From a government tool room or MSME technology centre. It moves you towards design and away from repair.
Senior technician or tool room in-charge Optional
Running the tool room, scheduling maintenance, and managing the tooling budget.
