What it will actually cost you
For B.Sc Environmental Science, the main cost is the full degree fee, which differs sharply between government or university colleges and private universities.
| Line item | Typical | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Government or university institution fee | Rs 10,000 - 80,000 total | Usually for the full 3 to 4 year degree. |
| Private institution fee | Rs 1,50,000 - 6,00,000 total | Usually for the full 3 to 4 year degree. |
Government and university colleges may offer reserved-category fee concessions and scholarships under applicable rules. Check the college prospectus and refund policy before paying, especially if your admission depends on a merit list or counselling round.
Indicative ranges, not quotations. Confirm the current fee with the institution before you pay anything.
Certifications that change what you earn
What it pays, and what changes it
In India, B.Sc Environmental Science graduates commonly start at ₹16,000 to ₹30,000 a month. Better-paying roles usually come after experience in environmental consulting, EHS, renewable energy, or ESG reporting.
India
Pay differs by city, employer and role. ESG and sustainability work can pay better than entry-level compliance roles.
| Stage | Monthly | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Entry level | ₹16,000 - ₹30,000 | Fresh graduate roles in environmental consulting, EHS departments, conservation NGOs or compliance work. |

| Specialist or ESG roles | ₹50,000 - ₹80,000 | Strong experience in corporate ESG reporting, sustainability advisory, environmental assessment or a relevant higher qualification or certification. |
Indicative bands for 2026, not measured salary data. What people actually earn varies by employer, state and sector.
The honest part
Entry-level pay is often modest, around ₹16,000 to ₹30,000 a month. The degree also does not by itself make you an environmental consultant. Many early roles involve compliance records, site data, sampling support and reports. Private college fees can reach about ₹6 lakh in total, so compare them carefully with government or university options.
There is a real opening beyond routine pollution compliance. Manufacturing EHS teams, renewable energy firms and sustainability advisory work need people who understand pollution, ecology and environmental impact assessment. Corporate ESG reporting is creating newer roles, and these may pay better than traditional compliance work. You do not need a licence to practise.
Students who do well usually build proof alongside the degree. They learn to read environmental reports, handle data, write clearly and take internships with consultancies, NGOs or EHS departments. They also stay open to an M.Sc, certification or another relevant course when a role asks for deeper technical knowledge.
