10 · The honest part

The honest part

This is a long, full-time route: 5.5 years including internship, with laboratory and clinical training. You cannot do it through distance or online study. Admission depends on NEET UG, then VCI counselling for 15% All India Quota seats or state counselling. Cost changes the decision sharply. Government fees are about ₹50,000 to ₹3 lakh in total, while private fees are about ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh.

The degree leads to work beyond pet clinics. State animal husbandry departments, dairy and poultry companies, veterinary pharmaceutical firms, zoos, wildlife parks and research institutes also employ veterinarians. Starting pay is typically ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 a month. After graduation, registration with the State Veterinary Council or VCI is mandatory before you practise veterinary medicine.

Students who do well usually treat the internship as serious training, not a formality. They build clinical skills, learn from livestock and pet cases, and keep their registration work in order. Some prepare for State PSC veterinary officer posts, while others move towards M.V.Sc, Ph.D, ICAR NET or specialised clinical practice.
