05 · What you learn

What you learn

CFA study has three examination levels, usually completed over 2 to 4 years, while you build the relevant work experience needed for the charter.

StageCore contentAlongside it
Level I Preparation for the Level I examination. Self-study, with optional coaching. Start planning relevant finance or investment work experience.
Level II Preparation for the Level II examination. Continue self-study or coaching and build relevant work experience.
Level III Preparation for the Level III examination. Complete the experience requirement for the charter. Four years of relevant work experience is required.

Ask before you enrol. How many live teaching hours and doubt-solving sessions do you provide for each CFA level, and what support do you give students to find relevant work experience?

06 · Who it suits

Who it suits

CFA suits graduates or final-year students who want to work in investment analysis, asset management, equity research or investment banking.

  • You are ready to clear three exam levels over about 2 to 4 years.
  • You can study largely on your own, with optional coaching alongside work or other commitments.
  • You want roles such as wealth manager, investment banker or equity research analyst.
  • You can plan for total fees of about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh across registration and all three levels.
  • You understand that the charter also needs four years of relevant work experience.
  • It does not suit you if you need a qualification that finishes in a few months or a job guarantee after an exam.
07 · Cost

What it will actually cost you

Budget about Rs 2,50,000 - 4,00,000 in total for CFA registration and all three examination levels.

08 · Certifications

Certifications that change what you earn

There is no separate licence to practise after CFA. The CFA charter itself is the recognised professional credential, awarded after you pass all three levels and complete four years of relevant work experience.

CertificationWhat it provesWhat it changes
CFA Charter You have passed CFA Level I, II and III and completed the required four years of relevant work experience. Supports access to investment management, equity research, wealth management and investment banking roles. It does not give a statutory licence to practise.
09 · Earnings

What it pays, and what changes it

In India, CFA-linked finance roles often start around ₹60,000 to ₹2,00,000 a month. Pay depends heavily on the role, employer and progress through the CFA levels.

India

Asset management, equity research, investment banking, wealth management and global capability centres are common employer groups.

StageMonthlyWhat it depends on
Entry level ₹60,000–₹1,00,000 Graduate roles in finance, research, wealth management or related teams.
Early career ₹1,00,000–₹1,50,000 Relevant work experience and progress through CFA examinations.
Experienced ₹1,50,000–₹2,00,000 Several years in investment management, equity research, investment banking or wealth management.

10 · The honest part

The honest part

The CFA route takes longer than the exam dates suggest. You must clear three levels and build four years of relevant work experience before you receive the charter. Most students study alongside a job, so evenings and weekends go into preparation. Total fees across registration and all levels are about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh. An entry-level role after graduation does not automatically count as the kind of experience needed for the charter.

For investment work, the credential has real weight with asset management firms, equity research houses, investment banks, wealth managers and global capability centres. It gives you a structured base in investment analysis while you build work experience. You do not need a licence to practise, and you can later add FRM or move towards an MBA in Finance if that fits your plans.

People who do well usually start with a relevant finance role, then keep a fixed study routine through each exam level. They learn to explain an investment view clearly, not only solve paper questions. They also keep records of their work experience and check that it meets the charter requirement, rather than discovering a gap after clearing the exams.
