Understand the exam

Exam overview

AP EAPCET is Andhra Pradesh's common entrance test for admission to engineering, agriculture and pharmacy degree programmes across the state's colleges, conducted on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education.

What it covers. Two streams. Engineering is taken with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Agriculture and pharmacy is taken with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Class 12 with the relevant subject combination is the requirement, and applications, notifications and counselling all run through the state CETs portal.

Local candidate rules matter here more than the exam does. Eligibility for state quota seats depends on where you studied rather than only where you live. The notification is specific about how many years of schooling must have been completed in the state, and this catches out families who have moved. Read that clause before assuming you qualify.

Telangana runs a separate exam. TG EAPCET has its own portal, notification and counselling. The two were a single examination before the states separated, which is why the names are so similar, but they are not interchangeable. Applying to the wrong one means missing the year.

Check the current year's notification for dates and fees rather than relying on last year's figures.

Who can appear

Eligibility to appear

Class 12

Physics and Mathematics for engineering; program-specific science subjects for agriculture or pharmacy. Eligibility varies by program, domicile/local-status rules and current APSCHE notification. Use the subject combination for the chosen course.

Eligibility to appear is not the same as eligibility to be admitted. Individual institutions add their own criteria on top of the exam's rules.

Overview

What this exam is

The Andhra Pradesh common entrance test for admission to engineering, agriculture and pharmacy programmes in the state, with seats allocated through centralised counselling by the state council.

Subjects

What the paper tests

Physics, chemistry and mathematics for the engineering stream, or biology in place of mathematics for the agriculture and pharmacy stream. The paper follows the state intermediate syllabus, and mathematics carries the largest share of questions on the engineering paper.

PreparationPlan

How to prepare

Prepare from the state intermediate syllabus rather than national-test material, since the alignment is close and the phrasing familiar. Mathematics weighting means it deserves proportionally more time. Local status rules determine which seats you can compete for and are worth confirming early, as they are not always intuitive for families who have moved.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Which subject carries the most weight?

Mathematics on the engineering paper, by a clear margin. Allocating preparation time evenly across the three subjects is a common way candidates lose rank.

Should I use the state syllabus?

Yes. The paper follows the state intermediate syllabus closely, including its phrasing, so state material is more useful than national-entrance books for this examination.

What is local status and why does it matter?

It determines which seats you compete for in counselling, and the rules are based on where you studied rather than only where you live. Families who have moved are often surprised, so confirm early.

Can I take it for agriculture or pharmacy?

Yes, through the biology stream in place of mathematics. Choose the stream according to the course you want, since it determines your eligible programmes.
