Who can appear
Eligibility to appear
Class 12 or an accepted equivalent meeting the current participating-IIM requirements. Check year-of-passing, marks, category relaxations and each participating IIM's final selection policy.
Eligibility to appear is not the same as eligibility to be admitted. Individual institutions add their own criteria on top of the exam's rules.
Overview
What this exam is
The National Testing Agency's admission test for the five-year integrated management programmes at the participating newer Indian Institutes of Management, taken directly after Class 12.
Subjects
What the paper tests
Quantitative aptitude, data interpretation and logical reasoning, and verbal ability with reading comprehension. All sections are objective with negative marking, and the standard is school-level mathematics applied under time pressure.
PreparationPlan
How to prepare
Preparation overlaps heavily with the other integrated management tests, so a single plan covers both and sitting more than one route improves your odds considerably. Negative marking rewards leaving genuinely uncertain questions rather than guessing broadly. Reading comprehension is the section most school students are weakest at and it improves only with months of sustained reading.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
How is JIPMAT different from IPMAT?
It is a common test for the integrated programmes at the participating newer IIMs, conducted centrally, whereas IPMAT processes are run by individual institutes. The preparation overlaps heavily, so sitting both improves your odds.
Does negative marking change how I should attempt it?
Yes. Unlike the short-answer sections of some integrated tests, this paper penalises wrong answers, so leave questions you are genuinely uncertain about rather than guessing across the board.
Which section is hardest for school students?
Reading comprehension, consistently. It improves only with months of sustained reading of demanding material, which is why starting in Class 11 rather than Class 12 makes a visible difference.
Is an integrated programme better than doing BBA then MBA?
It saves time and secures an IIM place early, but it commits you at seventeen. A separate degree keeps options open and allows work experience before an MBA, which many employers value. Neither is simply better.
