Class 12 Required
Commerce or science both work.
An agriculture qualification, or the DAESI diploma Required
A B.Sc Agriculture qualifies you directly. Without an agriculture degree, the one-year DAESI diploma in agricultural extension services is generally required before a pesticide dealer licence will be issued. Establish this before signing a shop lease.
Obtain the dealer licences Required
A fertiliser dealer licence under the Fertiliser Control Order and a pesticide licence under the Insecticides Act, both from the district agriculture office. Seed licensing is separate again. Selling without them is an offence, and shops are closed for it.
Set up the shop Required
Premises, GST registration, storage that meets the licence conditions, and distributor tie-ups with fertiliser, pesticide and seed companies. Storage conditions are inspected.
Build farmer trust Required
Input dealers are the most consulted agricultural advisors in rural India, whether or not they are qualified to be. Giving honest advice, including advising against a sale, is what builds a lasting business.
Expand the range, or add services Optional
Farm machinery, irrigation equipment, soil testing or custom hiring. Credit management is the recurring risk - most input dealers sell on credit against the harvest.
