What the work involves

Day to day

Commanding a company in a central armed police force - internal security, border guarding, counter-insurgency and disaster response - leading personnel in the field wherever the force is deployed.

Who this suits

Fit

Physically fit graduates who want a uniformed command role from the start. Entry is direct as a gazetted officer, the responsibility is immediate, and the service carries strong benefits and standing.

The honest reality

Read this one

Deployment is to difficult regions - insurgency-affected areas and remote borders - with long separations from family, and the risk to life is genuine rather than nominal. Stress, and mental health difficulty among personnel in these forces, is a documented and under-addressed problem. Selection includes demanding physical and medical standards that eliminate many candidates. Promotion prospects have been a long-standing grievance within the forces.

Common questions

The ones people actually ask about this work.

What is the physical standard?

Demanding, with medical and endurance requirements that eliminate many candidates regardless of written performance. Train well before the result arrives.

Where will I be deployed?

Border areas, insurgency-affected regions and internal security duties, generally away from family for extended periods at a time.

Is the risk to life real?

Yes, rather than nominal. Personnel in these forces face genuine operational danger, and that should be understood clearly before applying.

How is mental health supported in the forces?

Poorly, and it is a documented problem. Stress and its effects remain under-addressed institutionally despite repeated attention.
