What you learn
Over four years, you study how aircraft and spacecraft move, generate thrust, stay stable in flight and withstand loads.
| Stage | Core content | Alongside it |
|---|---|---|
| Throughout the 4 years | Aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics and aerospace structures. | Full-time on-campus laboratory training. |
Ask before you enrol. How many scheduled laboratory hours will you get each week for aerodynamics, propulsion and aerospace structures, and which working equipment will you use?
Who it suits
This course suits you if you want a four-year, full-time engineering degree focused on aircraft, spacecraft and their systems.
- You have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths, or are preparing for it.
- You are ready to prepare for JEE Main, JEE Advanced, a State CET or a university entrance test.
- You want to study aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics and aerospace structures in depth.
- You can commit to on-campus study for four years, including laboratory-based work.
- You are considering paths in ISRO, DRDO, HAL, defence PSUs, airlines engineering divisions, MRO facilities or private space companies.
- This course does not suit you if you need a distance or online degree, as this programme is full-time only.
What it will actually cost you
For the four-year degree, tuition usually ranges from Rs 1,00,000 - 6,00,000 in government or state institutions, Rs 6,00,000 - 10,00,000 in IITs and NITs, and Rs 4,00,000 - 25,00,000 in private universities.
| Line item | Typical | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Government or state institution fee | Rs 1,00,000 - 6,00,000 total | This is the indicative tuition fee for the full four-year course. |
| IIT or NIT fee | Rs 6,00,000 - 10,00,000 total | This is the indicative tuition fee for the full four-year course. |
| Private university fee | Rs 4,00,000 - 25,00,000 total | Fees differ widely by university and campus. |
Government and state institutions may offer reserved-category fee concessions and scholarships. Check the college prospectus and counselling notice for current eligibility, payment schedules and refund rules before accepting a seat.

Certifications that change what you earn
What it pays, and what changes it
In India, aerospace and aeronautical engineering graduates typically start at ₹25,000 to ₹55,000 a month. Pay rises with work in defence, space, aircraft maintenance, MRO facilities or global aerospace suppliers.
India
Starting pay differs by employer, city and the role you enter after B.Tech.
| Stage | Monthly | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Entry level | ₹25,000 - ₹55,000 | Graduate roles after B.Tech in aerospace, aeronautical engineering, maintenance or related engineering work. |
| Early career | ₹35,000 - ₹65,000 | A few years of relevant work in aerospace, defence, airline engineering, MRO or a private space company. |
| Experienced engineer | ₹55,000 - ₹90,000 | Several years of specialist experience in areas such as propulsion, structures, flight mechanics, testing or maintenance engineering. |
| Senior or specialist roles | ₹80,000 - ₹1,20,000 | Strong technical experience, responsibility for projects or teams, and work with defence PSUs, global suppliers or advanced aerospace programmes. |
Indicative bands for 2026, not measured salary data. What people actually earn varies by employer, state and sector.
The honest part
Aerospace has fewer entry-level openings than broad branches such as mechanical or computer engineering. Government and defence roles are competitive, and private space firms do not hire large batches every year. You will need full-time study, laboratory work and project work. Fees range widely, from about ₹1 lakh to ₹25 lakh for the full degree, while starting pay is often ₹25,000 to ₹55,000 a month.
The field does lead beyond the familiar ISRO and HAL routes. Aerospace suppliers, MRO facilities, airline engineering divisions, defence PSUs and private space companies need people who understand aerodynamics, propulsion, structures and flight mechanics. A strong degree also gives you routes into M.Tech, MS abroad, scientist recruitment and research.
Students who do well usually build proof alongside marks. They take laboratory work seriously, learn simulation or design tools used in their college, and make projects they can explain clearly in an interview. They also keep options open by applying for internships, apprenticeships and roles linked to mechanical engineering, manufacturing or maintenance when pure aerospace openings are limited.
