05 · What you learn

What you learn

Over two years, you study statistics, machine learning, data engineering and the use of data in different sectors.

StageCore contentAlongside it
Year 1 Statistics and machine learning. Work that builds your statistical grounding.
Year 2 Data engineering and domain applications. Project portfolio work using data problems from sectors such as banking, retail, healthcare or technology.

Ask before you enrol. How many supervised data projects will you complete, and will you work with real datasets rather than only classroom examples?

06 · Who it suits

Who it suits

This course suits a graduate who wants to work with data, statistics and machine learning in a full-time two-year programme.

  • You have studied Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science in your graduation.
  • You are ready to prepare for CUET PG, a university entrance exam or an institute admission test.
  • You want roles such as data scientist, quantitative analyst or research scientist.
  • You are willing to build a project portfolio alongside learning statistical methods and data engineering.
  • You want to work in areas such as banking, fintech, e-commerce, healthcare analytics or technology companies.
  • It does not suit you if you want to avoid mathematics and statistics, or need a course you can finish within a year.
07 · Cost

What it will actually cost you

For the full two-year M.Sc Data Science / Analytics course, government and university fees usually fall between Rs 20,000 - 1,50,000, while private university fees are typically Rs 1,50,000 - 8,00,000.

09 · Earnings

What it pays, and what changes it

In India, M.Sc Data Science / Analytics graduates commonly start at about ₹45,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month. Your statistics skills, project portfolio, role and employer affect where you fall in that range.

India

Pay is usually stronger in technology, analytics, consulting, banking, fintech, e-commerce, healthcare analytics and global capability centres.

StageMonthlyWhat it depends on
Entry level ₹45,000–₹1,00,000 A relevant M.Sc, genuine statistical grounding and a project portfolio.
Early career ₹45,000–₹1,00,000 Experience in data science, analytics, data engineering or a related role.
Experienced ₹45,000–₹1,00,000 Several years of relevant work in a sector such as technology, banking, fintech or consulting.

10 · The honest part

The honest part

The hard part is not learning a few machine learning tools. You need real comfort with statistics, mathematics, coding and messy data. Many applicants have similar degrees, so a certificate alone does not separate you. Fees range from about ₹20,000 to ₹1.5 lakh at government or university programmes, and about ₹1.5 lakh to ₹8 lakh at private institutions. Online or distance study also needs specific UGC-DEB approval from the university.

There are openings in technology, banking, fintech, e-commerce, healthcare, consulting and global capability centres. Starting pay is listed around ₹45,000 to ₹1 lakh a month, but it varies with your statistical base, projects and the institute. A two-year M.Sc gives you time to build deeper skills than a short course, especially if you want data science, quantitative analysis or later Ph.D. work.

Students who do well usually practise beyond classroom assignments. They clean imperfect datasets, explain why a model was chosen, check results with statistics, and document their work clearly. They build a small project portfolio that shows data engineering as well as analysis. They also choose one domain, such as banking or healthcare, and learn the kind of data and problems used there.
