What this exam is
The management admission test conducted by XLRI and accepted by a number of other business schools. It is distinctive among Indian management tests for including a decision-making section that no other major test has.

Verbal and logical ability, decision making, and quantitative ability with data interpretation, plus general knowledge and an essay that are used at later stages rather than for the initial cut. How to prepare
Decision making is what separates XAT preparation from preparation for other management tests, and it cannot be approached with formulae - it requires reading the situation for what a reasonable, fair-minded manager would do rather than what is most profitable. Practise it separately from quantitative work. The verbal section runs abstract and dense, so reading difficult non-fiction over months pays off more than technique.

What makes XAT different from other management tests?

How do I prepare for decision making?
Practise it separately from quantitative work. The section rewards choosing what a reasonable, fair-minded manager would do rather than what is most profitable or most decisive. Reading the situation carefully matters more than speed.
Do general knowledge and the essay count?
They are generally used at later selection stages rather than for the initial shortlist, which leads candidates to skip them entirely. That is a mistake if you reach the interview, where the essay can come back into the conversation.
Is the verbal section harder than CAT?
